Peanut Butter Squares

Reeses Squares Recipe

Something about this time of the year brings us more treats, candies, and goodies. Everyone has their favorite, and there are so many to choose from. Today’s selection comes from an easy-to-make twist on a classic, beloved candy known for its chocolatey and peanut-buttery goodness.

Rather than taking a bowl of candy to your next party, you can bring a platter of these delicious squares. Even better is how easy they are to make! There are essentially three steps as outlined in the recipe. I’ll also share a couple tips so you can make it exactly how you like it.

1) First off, the graham crackers. I personally like buying them whole, but you can get them pre-crushed into crumbs for convenience. For the whole crackers, I have found that honey-graham works best. Crush them up in a food processor or blender. Alternatively, you can crush them by hand in a plastic sandwich bag. This will yield larger crumbs that can add a nice crunch to you finished goodies. It can also double up as a fun way for the little ones to “help” in the cooking process.

2) There isn’t really much to the second step. Combine the melted butter, graham cracker, peanut butter, and powdered sugar in a bowl and then spread evenly onto a 9×13 ungreased pan.

3) The chocolate is another area where you can customize your treat. I have tried pure milk chocolate and found it to be too sugary in the end. I find that bittersweet chocolate chips work best when paired with the peanut butter mix. Melt them up and add a spoonful of peanut butter or two to make the chocolate spread more easily, then spread over the peanut butter portion. Chill for about an hour, then you are all set to cut them into squares and serve up for a tasty home-made version of a classic candy!
