The Digital Transformation Project, a $50 million, 2-year project, is an investment into the Elko, Spring Creek, and Lamoille communities; a commitment to providing superior service and future-proof technolo-gy that will provide benefits in every facet of business and home life, including online business, telehealth, online schooling, and even streaming television.
In support of the local community, Nevada Gold Mines (NGM) will lend Anthem Broadband $30 million through a community-based funding mechanism that will allow for the money and interest paid on the loan to go back to the community fund and allow for investment growth to benefit local communities well into the future.
Anthem Broadband will begin construction by the end of August and is committed to providing service to everyone in Elko, Spring Creek, and Lamoille, with plans to expand into other nearby communities including Battle Mountain, Carlin, and Wells.
The key to the success of this project is that Anthem Broadband will be utilizing redundant service paths to the east and west to provide the most reliable service available. It will also use an Active Ethernet construc-tion design, where most providers settle for a GPON service. The primary differences are GPON cuts costs by sharing connections between multiple homes and neighborhoods. Active Ethernet is more costly and uses considerably more conduit and fiber. In the long run, it provides everyone with a direct connection to a main service switch and creates an infrastructure that is easier to upgrade and expand in the future.
